Liberty and New Mexico State will define the 2023 Conference USA championship in Lynchburg. Both teams, in their inaugural seasons in C-USA in 2023, will be making their first appearances in the championship game.

Liberty Flames stats

Liberty boasts a perfect record of 12-0, indicating that they have yet to suffer a loss since joining the Conference USA. The Flames are coming off a 42-28 victory over the UTEP Miners, and today they will be vying for the division championship.

The Flames defeated the Aggies in Week 3 of this season with a score of 33-17, but they should not be overconfident as they approach the championship game where they aim to secure their first C-USA Championship. Previously, Liberty had claimed eight Big South Conference championships between 2002 and 2017.

New Mexico State Aggies stats

New Mexico State has accumulated eight consecutive victories on its way to the championship. They come off a 20-17 win against the Jax State Gamecocks in their latest appearance and hold a conference record of 7-1, with their only interdivisional loss coming against the Flames.

The champions of the Quick Lane Bowl 2022 will strive to secure a conference title for the first time since 1978 when, under the leadership of Gil Krueger, they won the Missouri Valley Conference. This would be their fifth title overall and the first since joining the C-USA.
