The latest installment of the Josh Gordon redemption story features the Kansas City Chiefs as the team giving him another chance.
Kansas City decided to get even stronger by bringing in the talented, yet troubled receiver once he was officially reinstated by the NFL a few weeks ago.
The team is also wasting no team as Gordon is expected on the field this Sunday in the AFC Championship Game rematch against the Buffalo Bills.
The Bills defense just pitched a shutout in a 40-0 victory over the Houston Texans.
Going up against Gordon alone will be a shock to the secondary after last week, and that is before remembering the fact the Chiefs have one of the most explosive offenses in NFL history.
A Whole New Dynamic
Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce are once again dominating in terms of targets from Patrick Mahomes.
Third is Mecole Hardman, followed by Byron Pringle.
Hill, Hardman, and Pringle all feast as smaller receivers who can use their speed to make plays.
Kelce, the tight end, is a matchup nightmare and can basically sit within zones and pick up huge gains.
Gordon is all of that and more.
The 6-foot-3 receiver has speed, strength, and size that is tough to cover.
This being true is why his career to this point has been such a shame.
Gordon truly is an All-Pro talent and that is why he keeps getting opportunity after opportunity.
This, however, may be the best opportunity he has ever received.
Gordon gets to play with a generational talent in Mahomes and if he can’t stay available here, that may be it for him in the NFL.
Don’t forget he is also 30 years old now.
A Perfect Time To Debut
Gordon could not be making his Chiefs debut at a better time.
The team is off to a 2-2 start and while the offense has not been bad by any measure, Chiefs fans expect more out of this team.
Adding Gordon to go up against the Bills could give fans an idea of how these teams would matchup in a potential Championship Game rematch.
Can the Bills stop him at all?
Well, one thing to keep in mind is that Gordon has not played since 2019.
So Sunday will be all about getting him back into the swing of being an NFL receiver.
He is also still learning the offense.
But a few simple routes could be installed for him and he can take over from there.
The Chiefs not only want to win because it is the Bills, but also because they currently sit in last place of the AFC West.
The division is much tougher this year and winning at home will be key.
And maybe Gordon has a huge game Sunday.
If so, the only person who could ever stop him in 2021 would be himself.
