Fox colleagues discuss how Tom Brady will perform as an announcer

Well-known media personality Erin Andrews of Fox Sports is among those who believe retired quarterback Tom Brady will impress as Fox's lead in-game NFL analyst later this year.

"I’ve sat with him at lunch before and he’s been telling stories about his career," Andrews said about Brady during a recent appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," per Christian Arnold of the New York Post and Reice Shipley of Awful Announcing. "And it’s stuff we just die for. Love the inside information. And you are just hearing stuff that you’ve just always wanted to know."

Brady and Fox agreed to a 10-year deal reportedly worth $375M that was announced in 2022 before he called time on his playing career "for good" in February 2023. He's set to replace fan-favorite Greg Olsen on Fox's No. 1 NFL broadcasting team, and Olsen has insisted he will "be as much of a resource as I can" for Brady from now through the 2024 season.

"Everybody’s worried about the commentating," Andrews joked about certain attributes Brady is bringing to Fox broadcasts. "I’m just like, 'The guy’s skin. I have to deal with this, him being on my crew.' I know because we talk about it a lot on our podcast."

Charissa Thompson of Fox added during the segment that Brady's résumé "supports that he is great at everything he does" and suggests that the seven-time Super Bowl champion will also excel calling games alongside play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt.

Arguably the biggest unknown about Brady's next career step is related to his attempt to purchase a minority stake in the Las Vegas Raiders. At least some owners reportedly aren't keen on any part owner of a team having inside access to other clubs via production meetings, and it remains unclear when a vote among the rest of the league's owners regarding Brady's proposed transaction will occur.

While Olsen became an award-winning announcer in the role that's no longer his, the harsh truth of the matter is that he lacks Brady's star power among both diehard and casual football fans. Brady likely won't be as sharp in the booth as Olsen in Week 1 this coming September, but Fox is banking on viewers tuning in to see if TB12 will either flop or flourish calling games for worldwide audiences.
