A member of the Oregon Ducks football program has been taken into custody following allegations of involvement in a serious hit-and-run incident.

The individual in question, identified as 19-year-old Daylen Amir Austin, a defensive back for Oregon, was apprehended on charges related to the incident which resulted in a fatality on Monday night.

James Crepea of The Oregonian reported the arrest, noting that Austin remains in custody as of the latest update.

Eugene Police Department spokesperson, as cited by Crepea, confirmed the charges against Austin. The department is actively investigating the matter and plans to forward gathered information to the Lane County District Attorney’s Office for further legal proceedings.

“Daylen Amir Austin, age 19, has initially been charged with felony Hit and Run. This is a complex investigation and EPD is still gathering information to be submitted to the Lane County District Attorney’s Office for a final charging decision.”

The Oregon Ducks football program issued a statement acknowledging the incident and stated that they are currently in the process of collecting relevant information regarding the situation.

Austin, who participated in three games for Oregon during the 2023 season as a redshirt freshman, now faces serious legal repercussions.

Social media reactions have been varied, with some refraining from commenting due to the gravity of the charges, while others express concern for the potential consequences Austin may face, both for himself and others affected by the incident.

As the situation unfolds, we will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.
