The Los Angeles Rams have wrapped the 2023 season, but the grind never stops. As soon as the final snap occurred, attention turned toward 2024, starting with the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. LAFB Network’s Ian Van Roy had the chance to catch up with top tight end prospect Ben Sinnott from Kansas State. During the conversation, Sinnott was asked about his feelings should the Rams decide to pull the trigger on him in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Put simply, any fans worried that Sinnott might have reservations about going to California can rest easy as the Rams would be a great fit, in the words of Sinnott. Here’s the way the question was posed and his response:
Q: I was just curious if you had a reaction for if the Rams ended up picking you? Would that be a good ending after this whole experience?
A: Yeah, for sure. I’m training out in California right now so it’s beautiful so that’d be a great fit.
In other words, the Rams are already in his backyard. This means that his comfort level out west is already much farther than his comfort in almost any other part of the country aside from the mid-west in proximity to Kansas State.
This could open the door to a faster progression and a level of Day 1 focus that many rookies would be thrilled with. With so few practices allowed by the NFL, any extra days to lock in and establish a rhythm before the first game of the season would mean that any growing pains are more likely to be ironed out on the practice field instead of the game day gridiron.
Breaking Down Ben Sinnott’s Fit With The Los Angeles Rams
While Sinnott wrapped up his college career as a tight end, he started it in an entirely different position. In his first two seasons, Sinnott was a fullback for the Kansas State Wildcats. However, in his third and fourth years, he started to show some pass-catching prowess.
In his third season, he posted 447 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Then, in 2023, he earned 676 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Not only is he peaking at the right time, but he also offers versatility. He can block if needed as well as any tight end but he can also get out in space and help out in the passing game.
His addition would give Sean McVay options he might not have now with Tyler Higbee starting to hit a wall in his career. Higbee, now 32 years old, sets up with Cooper Kupp to deliver a one-two gut punch to the Rams in the coming seasons as father time takes his inevitable toll on the duo.
Adding Sinnott would offer a level of protection fortifying the Rams from getting hit hard by Higbee and/or Cooper Kupp’s slowdown which could be just hitting. Of course, with only a few top tight-end prospects available this season, it would likely take a higher-end draft pick to secure Sinnott. However, should the Rams pull the trigger, it would be embraced by open arms by the fullback-turned-tight end.
