Trey Wingo is taking inspiration from Scott Hansen and the Manning brothers for his newest broadcasting gig this week — and it has nothing to do with football.

The former longtime ESPN personality is co-hosting an alternate broadcast of the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool Golf Club that he described as a combination of NFL RedZone and the popular “ManningCast” of Monday Night Football.

“Very conversational, very relaxed,” he explained to Front Office Sports. “We’re going to have access to basically everything that’s going on and just bounce around back and forth. We’re going to bring in some interviews and try and put things in perspective.”

Airing on Peacock from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET on Thursday and Friday, “Open Championship All Access” will see Wingo and Golf Channel analyst Billy Ray Brown share their thoughts while switching between feeds of the main telecast on USA Network, featured groups, and featured hole coverage, and range cam.

Wingo said they may even bring players who have already completed their rounds to join the show.

“We just want to have as much fun as we can, showing as much golf as we can in a different way,” he added.

Wingo — a self-described golf addict — has worked on some PGA Tour Live broadcasts since leaving ESPN in 2020. While at the network, Wingo covered six Open Championships to which ESPN had broadcast rights.

Unlike Peyton and Eli Manning, who broadcast games from Denver and New York, respectively, Wingo and Brown will be together in-person at NBC Sports’ HQ in Stamford, Connecticut, as they cover the action taking place in England.

“We’re trying to augment everything else that’s going on,” Wingo said. “It’ll sort of be like the way you and your buddies are sitting around watching the Open.”
