Bettor makes $20,000 wager on Tiger Woods to win PGA Championship at 60-1

A confident Tiger Woods assured reporters on Tuesday he believes he can legitimately contend throughout the PGA Championship that gets underway Thursday at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa.

Logic suggests otherwise. It's been roughly 15 months since Woods nearly lost his right leg in a gruesome car accident, and the 46-year-old admitted Tuesday that there's still "going to be limitations to what I'm going to be able to do."

That didn't stop somebody from figuratively going all-in regarding Woods' chances.

According to David Purdum of ESPN, Caesars Sportsbook reported on Tuesday that one person made a $20,000 over-the-counter cash bet on Woods to win the PGA Championship at 60-1 odds. That individual would win $1.2 million if Woods finishes the weekend atop the leaderboard.

"Just amazing how much of a draw Tiger is," Caesars Sportsbook director of trading Craig Mucklow explained. "We always have a liability on him regardless of his price. He is the prime-time draw of all time for the bettors and likewise for the [betting] industry. We want him in the field, just not the liability."

While Woods temporarily turned the clock back at Augusta National Golf Club last month when he shot a one-under 71 in the opening round of the Masters, he ultimately finished that tournament 47th.

As of Wednesday, Caesars Sportsbook had reigning Masters champion Scottie Scheffler listed as the betting favorite to win the PGA Championship at 11-1.
