Scottie Scheffler on PGA Championship: 'Nobody really remembers that I'm here' due to Tiger Woods

In many instances, most eyes would be on Scottie Scheffler heading into the PGA Championship that gets underway Thursday at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa. Scheffler notched victories at the WM Phoenix Open, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play before he became a household name by winning the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club last month.

Instead, the world No. 1 is taking somewhat of a backseat to 15-time major champion Tiger Woods, who is set to compete at the PGA Championship roughly 15 months after a horrific single-car accident nearly cost him his right leg and also his life. A seemingly confident Woods told reporters Tuesday he feels he can contend this week, while Scheffler somewhat joked about the fact the spotlight isn't on him before Thursday's action.

"Tiger's here so nobody really remembers that I'm here, so it's all good," Scheffler remarked, according to Sky Sports. "I don't feel any different. I don't get any extra shots this week.

"It's nice to have the ranking, but at the end of the day when I show up at a tournament, I don't have any advantages over the field other than we all start even par. For me, it's a tremendous honor, but at the end of the day when I show up to a tournament, I'm starting at even."

All kidding aside, Scheffler is receiving a bit of expected extra attention this time around. The 25-year-old explained he's trying to live "in the moment" and avoid distractions.

"For me, staying in my own lane and doing my own thing is what works best," Scheffler said. "I've really just performed my best when I've kept my head down and not really paid attention to anything else."
