PGA 2022: Wells Fargo Championship betting preview

After the Mexico Open, the PGA Tour is back in the U.S. this weekend for the Wells Fargo Championship.

We have a much more limited field, which is why we are seeing Rory McIlroy at the top of the odds table (I think for the first time this season). Rory might have the best reputation among the golfers in the field (he is the only top 10 player in the World Golf Rankings competing), but he is far from a sure thing despite what the pricing says.

This event is normally hosted at another course but due to other events on the Tour it is at TPC Potomac this week, a course that has hosted PGA events several times before.

There are five past winners in the field this week - Max Homa, Jason Day, Brian Harman, James Hahn, and Rickie Fowler.

Bets to Consider

Cameron Young +4000

Definitely shop around on Young as there are a lot of different numbers for him. He has yet to post his first PGA win but there is no doubt he has the goods. He has a couple of second-place finishes and finished 3rd in his last start.

Marc Leishman +3500

Once you get past Rory there are a lot of players in a similar range. Leishman has had some modest success on this course in the past, finishing 3rd here last year when it hosted the Travelers. He also has a top five here.

Corey Conners Top 10 +250

I feel like I am not using these derivative bets enough. Sure the payoffs are not as big but you are getting really good value, especially in taking the guy expected to finish second to just finish in the top 10. Conners is in pretty good form but has never played this course before. It looks like it should suit him but we get some coverage with the derivative play instead of the outright winner.

Keegan Bradley Top 10 +380

Similar to the play above Bradley is a nice value this weekend. He is not the strongest with the putter but it has been proven that you can win on this course without that.

Max Homa Top 5 +700

Homa is a past winner and that is always a great place to start. He also has a tour win this season and has not missed a cut since January, making him one of the more consistent players on the circuit right now. Taking the +4000 to win is tempting but this play is even better. Probably my favorite bet this week.
