PGA Championship won't have fans at Harding Park

On Monday, Ron Kroichick of the San Francisco Chronicle reported that the PGA Championship that was moved from May to Aug. 6-9 because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic won't allow spectators at San Francisco's Harding Park.

Kroichick added an official announcement is expected on Tuesday.

The PGA Tour resumed its season over the weekend with the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. Next on the schedule is the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head. Fans also won't be permitted on the course for that tournament.

As noted by Golf Channel's Will Gray, all five events leading up to the Jack Nicklaus Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Ohio are expected to occur behind closed doors and without fans. The Memorial, which runs from July 16-19, intends to welcome up to 8,000 spectators.

Safety protocols for how fans will enter and journey around the course haven't yet been announced.

NASCAR, the first major American sports competition to permit spectators since the start of the uncontrolled virus outbreak, is allowing up to 5,000 fans to attend Sunday's GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.

There's speculation that the UFC could begin allowing percentages of fans inside arenas this summer.
