PGA Tour suspends current, future LIV Golf participants

With the controversial LIV Golf Series officially breaking ground on Thursday, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan made a significant announcement regarding all current and future participants.

Shortly thereafter, the new breakaway league responded.

The LIV Golf Series' inaugural event is taking place on Thursday at the Centurion Club, with the second tournament in Portland, Ore., starting later this month. The league is funded by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and has drawn criticism from hosts of PGA Tour members, though some of them have now joined the very league they previously criticized.

On Tuesday, it was reported that Dustin Johnson and Louis Oosthuizen were bolting the PGA Tour to join the LIV Golf Series. On Wednesday, Bryson DeChambeau, Rickie Fowler and Patrick Reed joined the ever-growing list of players to make the switch -- a group that also includes Phil Mickelson and others.
