Rory McIlroy favorite to win U.S. Open

Fresh off his win at the RBC Canadian Open, Rory McIlroy is the favorite at sportsbooks across the states to win the U.S. Open this week in Brookline, Massachusetts.

The world No. 3 golfer is currently the 10-1 favorite to win the big event, according to Caesars Sportsbook. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler isn't far behind him, being listed third at 12-1 odds. Justin Thomas, who came in third at the Canadian Open, rounds out the top three at 11-1.

The Irishman's odds have lowered since he won the Canadian Open last weekend, and understandably so given he finished the weekend 19 under par. He is scheduled to tee off at this week's event along with Hideki Matsuyama and Xander Schauffele at 7:40 a.m. off the 10th tee.

The U.S. Open is garnering a little extra attention than usual due to the massive rift among the world's top golfers created by the Saudi Arabia-backed LIV Golf Invitational. Last week, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan suspended 17 golfers who chose to participate in the breakaway league's inaugural event. Seven of those golfers, including high-profile pros Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson, are allowed to participate in the U.S. Open this week.

Mickelson currently has the longest odds to win the U.S. Open as a 200-1 long shot.
