Tiger Woods to play in Ireland pro-am ahead of The Open

Regardless of his overall play, golf legend Tiger Woods received praise from throughout the sports world over the past week simply for competing at this year's Masters tournament roughly 14 months after a serious and horrific car crash nearly cost him his leg.

While speaking after his final round last Sunday, the 15-time major champion wouldn't commit to playing at the PGA Championship that gets underway on May 19 or at the U.S. Open the following month but vowed he would compete in The Open at St. Andrews in July.

Since that time, Woods has added at least one other event to his calendar.

Per ESPN's Mark Schlabach and the Golf Channel website, Woods will travel to play in the JP McManus Pro-Am held in Limerick, Ireland. The event is scheduled for July 4-5 at Adare Manor and begins 10 days before the start of The Open.

JP McManus, an Irish businessman and racehorse owner, hosts the pro-am that benefits charities in that country.

"Tiger has been a great friend and avid supporter of the pro-am for a very long time and we are absolutely thrilled he has committed to play once again in the tournament," McManus said in a statement shared by media outlets. "His presence at Adare Manor will undoubtedly bring huge excitement to the thousands of spectators and we are very grateful to him for giving up his free time to be with us."

The 46-year-old finished 47th at the Masters at 13 over par.
