Tiger Woods withdraws from Masters due to injury

Tiger Woods announced on Sunday morning that he is withdrawing from the Masters after re-aggravating his plantar fasciitis.

Woods was struggling at the start of the third round and was seen badly limping around the 17th hole before play was postponed on Saturday and pushed to Sunday. While the rest of the players that made the cut will continue on, Woods will be bowing out of the tournament due to his injury.

Even though he made an attempt to play in this year's Masters, Woods admitted in the lead-up to the tournament that he does not play or practice as much as he used to as he continues to deal with back and leg injuries that have significantly limited his ability.

Woods already said this week that there was a possibility this could be his final appearance at the Masters.

Woods made the cut at the Masters for a record 23rd consecutive time, but opened his third round on Saturday with multiple bogeys as he visibly struggled to move around the course. The only time he ever missed the cut at the Masters was the 1996 tournament when he was still considered an amateur player.

He has won 15 majors in his career and is a five-time Masters champion.

Woods first discovered his plantar fasciitis injury in November when it forced him to withdraw from The Hero World Challenge.
