Tiger Woods joins exclusive club with latest feat at the Masters

Bogeys on his last two holes weren't enough to prevent Tiger Woods from making the cut at the Masters for the 23rd consecutive time, tying him with Fred Couples and Gary Player for the most of all time.

Woods (three-over par) finished his second round early Saturday after inclement weather forced officials to halt play Friday afternoon.

As he resumed his second round, the expected cut line was at two-over par and Woods appeared in good shape to qualify for the final two rounds after sinking a birdie to move to one-over.

Things got dicey at the end but he got a huge lift from Justin Thomas after he also bogeyed his final two holes, which pushed the cut line to three-over.

Woods, the five-time Masters champ, last missed the cut in 1996, his second appearance at the tournament. He then went on to have 12 top-10 finishes over the next 15 tournaments, including wins in 1997, 2001, 2002 and 2005.

He most recently won in 2019 after injuries forced him to miss the tournament in 2014, 2016 and 2017. In Feb. 2021, he was injured in a serious car accident that put his future in golf in jeopardy.

Incredibly, he was able to recover in time for the 2022 Masters and made the cut, putting him in a position to tie the record this year.

It's hard to overstate how impressive the accomplishment is considering Woods' extensive injury history and that he's not 100 percent healthy. During warmups on Thursday, footage showed Woods wincing and walking gingerly down a bunker.

After his opening round, Woods described the pain he felt in his right leg as "constant" but that didn't prevent him from finishing 36 holes of golf and qualifying for 36 more.

With Brooks Koepka leading at 13-under, Woods won't be competing for a sixth Masters title this weekend. Still, that shouldn't stop his final two rounds from serving as a victory lap.
