Jake Marisnick joined the Los Angeles Dodgers in July as the front office attempted to fill their need for a right-handed bat.

After cycling through multiple options early in the season, Marisnick was brought in after being designated for assignment by the Detroit Tigers on July 9. Prior to joining the Dodgers, he posted a .232/.270/.420 slash with three doubles, two triples, two home runs and 12 RBI over 33 games.

Marisnick would immediately join the Dodgers on July 15, appearing in four straight games against the New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles. He logged two hits in six plate appearances prior to being placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.

He eventually landed on the 60-day injured list, missing a solid portion of the remaining regular season schedule.

On September 12, the Dodgers sent Marisnick on a rehab assigning with the Oklahoma City Dodgers, where he recorded an .822 OPS with three doubles, one home run and six RBI in 25 plate appearances.

Marisnick didn’t factor into the Dodgers’ Major League outfield group the rest of the year.

Jake Marisnick 2023 highlight

Marisnick’s best stretch came with the Tigers, when he logged six RBI over a four game stretch in early July.

Highlighted by a grand slam off of left-handed reliever Brad Hand, Marisnick made himself an attractive buy-low candidate once he was outrighted by the Tigers on July 13.

2024 outlook

The veteran outfielder was signed by the Los Angeles Angels to a Minor League contract in December, which will likely include an invitation to Spring Training.

Given how the Angels are looking for pieces to build as the foundational structure of their team, Marisnick could carve out a niche in specific spots. Under new manager Ron Washington, if the Angels need a seasoned bat with the ability to play all three outfield spots, he has a chance to see decent time.

Finishing out the season with OKC, Marisnick has a positive runway entering a new season in 2024.
