2023 MLB awards betting preview: AL Rookie of the Year
With spring training approaching, it's time to start thinking about 2023 MLB future bets. With most sportsbooks offering odds on award winners, we dive into the AL Rookie of the Year.

American League Rookie of the Year
Gunnar Henderson, Baltimore Orioles, third base (+280)
Henderson got his first taste of the majors late in the 2022 season, hitting .259 with four home runs and 18 RBI. Before his call-up, Henderson was hitting .297 with 19 home runs in 112 games at the AA and AAA levels combined.
Per MLB.com, he is the second Baltimore player to be named MLB Pipeline's No. 1 overall prospect within the past year. Catcher Adley Rutschman was ranked No. 1 when he arrived in the big leagues last May.
Masataka Yoshida, Boston Red Sox, outfielder (+800)
Yoshida will be making the transition to the majors after spending the past seven seasons playing for the Orix Buffaloes in the Nippon Professional Baseball Organization in Japan. He batted .326 with 301 extra-base hits and 467 RBI during his tenure.
His projections for this season are favorable.
Oscar Colas, Chicago White Sox, first baseman | OF (+1400)
Colas, 24, spent his first season in the minor leagues in 2022 after defecting from Cuba in 2020. He did not disappoint, posting a .314 batting average with 23 home runs and 79 RBI.
Colas started at A+ ball and progressed to AAA by the end of the season. He has a clear path to start in right field for the White Sox. Expect him to showcase his power and batting skills early on. He's an adept fielder, too.
“He’s got a plus arm. He’ll certainly want to advertise that come spring training,” White Sox's assistant GM Chris Getz said, per the Chicago Sun-Times. “But he has instincts out there, covers ground and communicates well. He can make some plays. He’ll be a solid corner outfielder defensively.”
