On Sunday night, Adam Wainwright and his batterymate, catcher Yadier Molina, broke the all-time record for most wins as a pitcher-catcher duo, passing Warren Spahn and Del Crandall with win No. 203.

The St. Louis Cardinals‘ historic battery now stands alone in baseball history.

However, there was an interesting part about the historic accomplishment of these two batterymates.

Albert Pujols, who served as the team’s designated hitter, took the mound in the top of the ninth inning, with St. Louis ahead 15-2.

Pujols’ pitching debut didn’t go so well, as the Giants scored four runs off of him on two homers, but The Machine still managed to record the final three outs.

After the game, Wainwright took to Twitter to support Pujols after such a rough outing.

Been There, Done That

This is a hilarious comment.

Wainwright did in fact allow a home run in his Major League debut all the way back in 2005.

Both Molina and Pujols were there for that one.

But there’s a first time for everything and maybe Pujols just needed to get the jitters out.

It happens.

But Wainwright is a great teammate who is supportive.

If Wainwright could turn it around and become the ace he is today, then the sky is the limit for Pujols.

All jokes aside, that’ll probably be the only time we ever see Pujols take the mound, unless the Cardinals find themselves being blown out and need to save their bullpen.

That’s always possible.

But regardless of how it went, all three Cardinals legends got to be a part of something special.

Wainwright and Molina picked up a historic win and Pujols got to put the finishing touches on it.
