Angels' Anthony Rendon placed on 10-day IL with wrist inflammation

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim placed infielder Anthony Rendon on the 10-day injured list on Saturday.

The 31-year-old is out with right wrist inflammation. Rendon suffered the injury during an at-bat against the Toronto Blue Jays earlier this week.

Angels' manager Joe Maddon announced Rendon would be heading to the injured list on Friday, but the team made the move official on Saturday.

Maddon didn't offer any information about the extent of Rendon's injury nor a timetable for his return but stated, "it's definitely going to be a little bit of time here."

This season for the Angels, Rendon is batting .242/.335/.403 with five home runs and 23 RBIs in 41 games.

Rendon played in only 58 games last season, requiring season-ending surgery to repair a hip impingement last August.

Since signing a seven-year, $245 million contract with the Angels in 2020, Rendon has played only 151 out of 269 games. In two-plus seasons with the Angles, Rendon is batting .256/.362/.427 with 20 home runs and 88 RBIs.

With Rendon on the IL, the Angels selected right-handed pitcher Janson Junk to replace his spot on the active roster.

Junk, 26, pitched in four games for the Angels last season, going 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA in 16.1 innings.
