Following the acquisition of Robinson Canó , journeyman Phil Gosselin was DFA’d to make room for Canó on the active roster. I thought there was a decent chance he would clear waivers and the Braves would hang onto him as organizational depth, but the Angels decided not to let that happen, reuniting with the utility man.

This news comes a few weeks after the Angels acquired Touki Toussaint from the Braves, and both players are familiar with Angels GM and former Braves front office member Perry Minasian. Phil Gosselin spent last season with the Angels, putting up some decent numbers and playing in 104 games. He appeared in 12 contests with the Braves this season and was an okay replacement for the injured Ozzie Albies . However, there’s no questioning that Canó is an upgrade. He’s also a left-handed bat, making him a better option to platoon with Orlando Arcia. It would have been nice to hang on to Goose, but I’m not shocked someone claimed him, especially a club like the Angels that is familiar with what he brings to the table.
