Angels infielder suspended for bumping umpire during argument

Los Angeles Angels infielder Brandon Drury did not have a great Monday.

Along with going 0-for-5 at the plate, he was also ejected in the top of the 10th inning for arguing a third-strike call with home plate umpire Ramon De Jesus. According to Major League Baseball, Drury made contact with De Jesus during that argument, resulting in a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine.

Both of those punishments were announced on Tuesday by the league.

Here is a look at the call, as well as Drury's reaction and the ejection.

That was definitely a close pitch, and Drury clearly thought it was out of the zone. The contact was not much with the visor of Drury's helmet appearing to make contact with De Jesus' mask. But any contact with an umpire, especially in the context of an argument over balls and strikes, is not going to be tolerated by the league.

The good news for Drury is that even though he was ejected and had a brutal night at the plate, the Angels were still able to get a big 9-6 win over the first-place Texas Rangers in 12 innings.

Drury is in his first year with the Angels and hitting .252 with 10 home runs and 30 RBI through Monday.
