Prior to the start of their series with the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday, the Los Angeles Angels made a few roster moves within their organization.

The team reinstated right-handed pitcher Jose Marte from the injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Salt Lake. They also designated pitcher Zach Weiss for assignment, likely a move to make room for Marte. Los Angeles also saw catcher Chad Wallach clear waivers, and he will now be assigned to Triple-A Salt Lake, as well.

It was a busy day for the organization, but none of the moves should affect the big-league club for right now.

Marte comes off the 60-day injured list and will be starting his return to the big-league club. He had been dealing with an elbow injury, but the team is hopeful that he can make any sort of impact down the stretch.

Last season with the Angels, Marte appeared in 11 games and had an ERA of 7.36 over 11 innings of work. It wasn’t a great showing for him, but he still is only 27 years old.

Wallach has hit .209 with seven home runs and 13 runs batted in for the Halos this season. His bat has been an issue all season long, so maybe he can regain some form with more time in the minor leagues.

As for Weiss, he appeared in six games for the Halos this season. He holds an ERA of 5.06 and struck out seven in 5.1 innings of work. The veteran could latch on with another team and hope for better results than he saw with the Angels.

The Angels will look to start climbing out of the hole that they find themselves in as we get closer to the start of September. Their playoff chances don’t look great but never say never.
