The Los Angeles Angels made a few roster moves on Tuesday ahead of the Rule 5 protection deadline, selecting the contracts of Kolton Ingram and Jose Soriano—adding them to the 40-man roster. Also, they announced they’ve designated Touki Toussaint, Rob Zastryzy, and Nash Walters for assignment.

Ingram, a 26-year-old reliever originally selected in the 37th round of the 2019 draft by the Detroit Tigers, was brought into the Angels organization prior to the 2021 season. His development has been a pleasant surprise, compiling a 2.40 ERA in 75 innings pitched, and posting a 10.8 strikeout per nine innings.

Soriano is coming off multiple Tommy John surgeries, and after spending the majority of the 2022 season working his way back, posted a 2.08 ERA in 13 innings between two levels of the Angels farm system. Still just 24 years old, Soriano has an intriguing upside with his high velocity but remains a player to watch in terms of their health.

Toussaint is the biggest name of the players making their exit considering his one-time top prospect status with the Atlanta Braves. However, in four seasons with the Braves, he tossed 145 innings to the tune of a 5.46 ERA. After acquiring him in July, He posted a 4.62 ERA in 25.1 innings while walking 19 batters and tallying 26 strikeouts.

Angels agree to a three-year deal with Tyler Anderson

Ever since Arte Moreno announced his intention to sell the Los Angeles Angels, the question became whether or not Perry Minasian would have the green light to sign free agents contracts longer than one year. Now, the question has reportedly been answered.

The Angels are rumored to have made the first big splash of the offseason, signing former L.A. Dodgers left-handed starter Tyler Anderson to a deal worth approximately $39 million over three years. The team has not yet confirmed this deal.

Anderson joins the Halos after an incredible 2022 season with the Dodgers. He tossed 178.2 innings over 28 starts, compiling a 2.57 ERA and 1.002 WHIP. He was arguably the Dodgers’ second-best starter in 2022 behind Cy Young finalist Julio Urias.
