The Milwaukee Brewers were recently caught off guard as their former manager Craig Counsell shocked everyone and signed a massive deal with the division rival Chicago Cubs.

This has the Brew Crew in need of a new manager.  Reportedly they are eyeing up one former NL Manager of the Year who also previously was a skipper in the National League Central.

Over the past few days multiple MLB Insiders have indicated that the Brewers are strongly considering promoting bench coach Pat Murphy to manager. What has not been revealed is who else that they are interviewing. Milwaukee meeting with Mike Shildt has not been confirmed, but  Bob Nightengale is reporting that they are eyeing him up.

If true that would mean that the former St. Louis Cardinals manager is being considered by at least two different organizations. Outside of the Brewers, Shildt is reportedly being considered by the San Diego Padres. Shildt currently serves as the Padres senior advisor to player development.

Throughout his managerial career, Shildt has a 252-199 record across four seasons with the Cardinals. Three out of the four years that he managed the Cards, St. Louis made the postseason, which included a trip to the NLCS in 2019. That was also the year that he won NL Manager of the Year.

Shildt’s departure from St. Louis came after the 2021 season. They won 90 games that year, but lost in the NL wild-card game to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cardinals cited philosophical differences as the primary reason for his termination.

It will be interesting to see if Shildt gets another opportunity to manage again or not. The Brewers could be eyeing him up due to his familiarity with the National League Central as well as his history of making it deep into the playoffs.
