Right-handed pitcher Dylan Coleman is changing zip codes as the Kansas City Royals sent him to the Houston Astros in exchange for minor league RHP Carlos Mateo, the Astros announced Wednesday.

Coleman, 27, has made 96 appearances for the Royals the past three seasons, with one start. In 92 2/3 innings pitched in his major league career, he has a 5-4 record with a 3.88 ERA, 99 strikeouts and 57 walks.

Checking in at 6-feet-5, 230 pounds, Coleman had a standout year in relief in 2022, allowing just 47 hits in 68 innings with a 2.78 ERA. However, he battled control issues in 2023 as he split time between Triple-A Omaha and the majors in 2023, walking 19.8 percent of hitters in the majors and 21.8 percent in Triple-A.

In exchange the Royals received Mateo, 19, who has also worked primarily out of the bullpen as he pitched in parts of the past two seasons.

In 2022, Mateo made 10 appearances, including four starts, for Houston's Dominican Summer league affiliate, finishing with a 2-1 record, including four starts, and a 2.63 ERA in 27 1/3 innings.

In 2023, he played in seven games for the Astros Florida Complex League team. He finished with a 5.19 ERA in 8 2/3 innings, adding four walks and 12 strikeouts.
