The Washington Nationals had their five-game win streak snapped Saturday in the first of two games against the New York Mets. However, the Nats had one large win during the game. Reliever Austin Voth pitched for the first time since being hit in the face by a pitch on June 6.
Austin Voth threw 12 pitches during a scoreless appearance in the sixth inning. He allowed a leadoff single to Luis Guillorme. However, he got the next batter, Mason Williams, to strike out swinging before catcher Alex Avila threw out Guillorme trying to steal second. Voth got out of the frame with a fly out against Tomas Nido.
Voth suffered a broken nose when a 90 miles per hour fastball got away from Philadelphia Phillies starter Vince Velasquez and hit Voth in the face. Blood immediately poured from his nose making for a very scary scene.
He underwent surgery in Philly to repair multiple fractures in his nose. He was placed on the injured list, but was activated on Friday.
