Blue Jays' Teoscar Hernandez heads to IL with oblique injury

The Toronto Blue Jays enjoyed a fun Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium as slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. crushed three home runs en route to guiding the Canadian club to a 6-4 win over the New York Yankees.

However, that victory did come at a price.

As noted by ESPN and The Associated Press, the Blue Jays placed outfielder Teoscar Hernandez on the 10-day injured list ahead of Thursday's matchup at New York due to a left oblique strain.

Per Keegan Matheson of the MLB website, Hernandez suffered the setback during an at-bat in the sixth inning of Wednesday's win but tried to tough it out. However, he was visibly in pain as he ran toward first base after he hit a ground ball, and an MRI on Thursday confirmed the nature of the issue.

According to Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet, Toronto manager Charlie Montoyo didn't seem too concerned about the problem:

Hernandez earned his first MLB All-Star nod last year and ended the season hitting .296 with 32 home runs and 116 RBI. The 29-year-old was hitting .316 with a homer and three RBI in six games during the current campaign before the injury.

The Blue Jays opened the spring with four wins across six contests.
