The history of the Boston Red Sox organization is undoubtedly storied and illustrious.
Several great players and teams have passed through the organization, providing each generation of fans with some great memories.
But a team as historic as the Red Sox never stops adding to its legacy, no matter who is a part of their roster.
On Sunday night in their game against the New York Yankees, young first baseman Bobby Dalbec joined some elite company.
With the game tied at three in the top of the sixth inning, Dalbec sent a fly ball into deep right field that cleared the wall and put the Red Sox in front 4-3, where they would stay as they held on for their first win of 2022.
Making History
Not many players can say that they have anything on Ted Williams, who is arguably the greatest hitter of all time.
Dalbec’s 34th career home run moved him into third place alone on the all-time list of Red Sox players in their first 162 games.
He had been tied with Williams and now only trails Tony Conigliaro and Walt Dropo.
That’s some impressive history to be a part of if you’re Dalbec.
Again, not many players can say they’ve got more of something than Williams.
This has to feel good for a guy like Dalbec, who has struggled slightly in the early part of his career.
Now, he is in some elite and rare company in Red Sox history.
This was Dalbec’s 159th career game.
All he needs now is three more home runs to be on top of the list, though he’ll only have three more games to do that.
