The Boston Red Sox had a split-squad game today the first half of the roster lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-1 and the other half tonight will take on the Minnesota Twins in Grapefruit League play. Nick Pivetta is making his fifth appearance, he is 0-1 with a 5.25 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, and 13 strikeouts in 12 innings, this will be his last start before he takes the ball in the second game of the season. Tomorrow they will take on the Atlanta Braves with Kutter Crawford making his fifth start of the spring, he is 1-0 with a 1.98 ERA, a 0.80 WHIP, and 13 strikeouts in 13.2 innings. Red Sox manager announced today that it’s 75th overall prospect Ceddanne Rafaela has made the team for Opening Day, they challenged him and he exceeded expectations. Besides the Rafaela news, they signed Chase Anderson to a minor league deal today.

Rafaela this spring played in 19 games and he hit .275 with a .896 OPS; he had six doubles, three home runs, eight RBI, and seven runs scored. Last season he played in 28 games and he hit .241 with a .667 OPS; he had six doubles, two home runs, five RBI, and 11 runs scored.
RHP – Chase Anderson
Anderson this spring pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates before being released he made four appearances with one being a start going 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA, a 0.73 WHIP, and nine strikeouts in 11 innings. Last season he pitched for the Tampa Bay Rays and Colorado Rockies making 19 appearances with 17 of those coming as starts, he went 1-6 with a 5.42 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP, and 64 strikeouts in 86.1 innings.
