Braves ace Max Fried wins arbitration case, set to earn $6.85 million this season
The Atlanta Braves came to financial terms Wednesday with one of the key cogs in their World Series run last season and one of the best southpaws in the National League.
Fried will not hit free agency until after the 2024 season.
The 28-year-old is having another phenomenal season, going 7-2 with a 2.77 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 83 strikeouts across 87 2/3 innings covering 14 starts. Fried earned his second consecutive Gold Glove award in 2021 and was named a Silver Slugger as well.
He's combined with other members of the starting rotation like Kyle Wright and Ian Anderson to help the Braves go 16-3 in June and put pressure on the first-place New York Mets. Atlanta is in second place and trails their rivals by 5 1/2 games entering Wednesday.
