Braves' Adam Duvall out for rest of playoffs with oblique injury

The Atlanta Braves opened the National League Championship Series with a 5-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday but lost outfielder Adam Duvall for more than just a night.

Atlanta confirmed on Tuesday that Duvall suffered a strained left oblique muscle while attempting to bat during the second inning of Game 1. Utility infielder Johan Camargo is immediately replacing Duvall on the roster.

Duvall won't be available to return to action if the Braves qualify for the World Series.

As ESPN's Alden Gonzalez noted, Braves manager Brian Snitker feared the worst when speaking with reporters shortly after Atlanta won the series opener.

"I don't expect the outcome to be good," Snitker said. "He popped it."

Duvall, who turned 32 in September, tied for third in home runs among all NL players with 16 during the pandemic-shortened regular season, and he posted a .833 OPS. He had struggled since the start of the playoffs, however, as he'd tallied only two hits, a single home run and three RBI in 20 at-bats, good for a .100 average.

Camargo, a switch-hitter, batted .200 with four home runs, nine RBI and a .611 OPS across 35 games this season. He hasn't notched an official at-bat since Sept. 5.

Camargo can play all four infield positions and also the outfield.
