Braves non-tender one-time All-Star Adam Duvall

It looks like outfielder Adam Duvall will be able to test the free-agent market later this month.

As Gabriel Burns reported for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Braves non-tendered the 32-year-old slugger ahead of Wednesday night's deadline for arbitration-eligible players. Duvall was set to earn a salary between $4.4 million and $7.1 million next year.

The league's official website listed the value at $4.7 million.

Duvall made his first and, to date, only All-Star appearance in 2016 as a member of the Cincinnati Reds, and he joined the Braves via a trade in July 2018. Following an inconsistent and disappointing start to his Atlanta tenure, he found his form during the pandemic-shortened campaign and hit .237 with 16 home runs, 33 RBI, and a .532 slugging percentage across 57 regular-season games and 190 at-bats.

In six playoff contests, Duvall tallied only two hits in 20 ABs (.100) with one homer and three RBI. He struck out 11 times in the postseason

MLB Network's Ken Rosenthal reported that the Braves are waiting to learn if the National League will utilize the designated hitter moving forward after adopting it for 2020 before making a final decision on Duvall. There continue to be conflicting rumors on the subject, with no official confirmation either way as of the first week of December.

It's a safe bet the MLB Players Association will push for the universal DH while negotiating for a season destined to start amid a continuing health crisis.
