Braves SP Charlie Morton suffers broken leg, out rest of World Series
Atlanta Braves pitcher Charlie Morton will miss the remainder of the World Series after fracturing his fibula in Game 1.
Tests determined Morton's fibula was fractured in the second inning of Tuesday's game on a 102-mph comebacker from Houston Astros Yuli Gurriel.
Morton pushed on, however, and went on to pitch in the third inning. He had two strikeouts and one flyout before his leg gave out.
Social media was quick to point out Morton's last pitch was a called strike-three to Jose Altuve, who continues to draw ire from the baseball world for his involvement in the Astros' sign-stealing scandal from a few years back.
The Braves went on to win Game 1 by a score of 6-2.
Morton signed a one-year, $20 million extension with Atlanta last September that included a club option through the 2022 season. He is expected to be ready for spring training ahead of the 2022 campaign.
