Bryce Harper not jealous of former Nationals teammates who won World Series
In March 2019, Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper left the only MLB home he'd ever known to put pen to paper on a historic contract with division rivals the Philadelphia Phillies.
A little over seven months later, the Nationals won the franchise's first World Series title.
One might think Harper would be jealous and even bitter about his former employer reaching the mountaintop without him, but he wants everybody to know he's just fine with it, thank you very much.
During an appearance on the "Starting 9" podcast, Harper said the thought that he'd be jealous of Washington teammates winning the World Series was merely a "misconception."
"I think the misconception right now is, 'Oh, he's so jealous, he's so hurt that he left the Nationals, he's so this, that, and the other.' I couldn't be more happy for those guys because those are the guys that I grinded with for the first seven years of my career. You know, they're winning a world championship and I'm at the point in my life where I am so happy to be in Philly."
The Phillies haven't made the playoffs since 2011, and there's currently no guarantee there will be a 2020 MLB season due to the coronavirus pandemic. Nevertheless, Harper still has about 330 million reasons to feel satisfied with the decision he made last year.
