The Los Angeles Angels approaching the offseason with a slew of changes forthcoming, including finding a new manager ahead of the 2024 season.

They recently declined Phil Nevin’s option for next year, after spending a little over a year as manager. Angels owner Arte Moreno has to find the fourth skipper since Mike Scioscia stepped down in 2018, and with the franchise still in a state of flux, the next lead man has to prepare for a good chunk of roster turnover.

With general manager Perry Minasian openly calling the Angels managerial position an attractive position, he’s already begun to draw decent attention. Most recently that of a notable name, who’s now in the running, per Bob Nightengale of USA Today:

Buck Showalter, fired last week by the Mets, was Billy Eppler’s first choice to manage the Angels, before Angels owner Arte Moreno opted for Joe Maddon. He now is under consideration in Anaheim again with GM Perry Minasian, who worked with Showalter in Texas.

Showalter has 22 years as a big league manager, most recently spending two seasons with the Mets. This past year was rough, going 75-87 and vastly underperforming, which led to their front office trading away prized pieces.

The Angels could benefit from his experience managing youthful, rebuilding teams, as Showalter guided the Baltimore Orioles during some very up and down years from 2010-to-2018.

Angels let go of assistant general manager Mike Tamin

Previously spending six seasons within the Los Angeles Dodgers front office ranks as director of baseball operations, contracts and research. Alex Tamin was also utilized by many MLB clubs in the past to handle salary arbitration cases.

But the Angels announced this past week that Tamin wouldn’t be returning as their assistant general manager for the 2024 season.

Tamin was hired by current general manager Perry Minasian before the 2021 year in a hiring wave from the Atlanta Braves organization.
