Cardinals manager says coronavirus outbreak has resulted in trips to emergency room

The St. Louis Cardinals haven’t played since July 29 due to the team’s ongoing coronavirus outbreak, and manager Mike Shildt discussed the organization’s difficult battle with the virus in a radio appearance.

Shildt revealed that multiple members of the team have made trips to the emergency room because they were experiencing coronavirus symptoms.

Although he didn’t reveal specific symptoms, they can include fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing and nausea, among others.

Major League Baseball has postponed 24 games due to the Cardinals and Miami Marlins COVID-19 outbreaks.

It’s not clear when the Cardinals will return to play, though the club is scheduled to host the Pittsburgh Pirates in a three-game series on Monday. However, that’s expected to be postponed.

St. Louis has played just five games this season.
