Cardinals place reliever Andrew Miller on IL with shoulder fatigue

Ahead of Thursday's doubleheader versus the Pittsburgh Pirates, the St. Louis Cardinals placed left-handed relief pitcher Andrew Miller on the injured list retroactive to Monday due to left shoulder fatigue.

Righty Junior Fernandez was activated off the IL and added to the big league roster.

Miller, 35, has appeared in seven contests for the Cardinals, and the 6-foot-7 southpaw last pitched on Aug. 23 versus the Chicago Cubs. He holds a record of 0-1 with two saves, six strikeouts and a 4.76 ERA this summer.

Miller went unused in three games against the Kansas City Royals earlier this week. Per Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat, the Cardinals expect Miller will be ready to return to the bullpen next Thursday.
