The Cincinnati Reds beat the Chicago White Sox 11-1 last evening in the opening game of their three-game set against each other. The Reds have a 5-0 lead already in game two. The Reds will look to keep the bats red-hot while punishing the White Sox pitching staff on their way to a series sweep.
LHP – Sam Moll
The Reds have sent Sam Moll on a rehab assignment down to Triple-A Louisville Bats. Moll is recovering from a left shoulder impingement. Moll last year pitched in 70 games 25 games after being traded from Oakland where he pitched in 45 games. Combined Moll had a 2-3 record with a 3.03 ERA. Moll in 2023 worked 62.1 innings in those combined 70 games. He gave up 47 hits, 21 earned runs, two home runs, 30 walks, and struck out 68 batters.
LHP – Nick Lodolo
The Reds activated Lodolo from the injured list today before he made the start against the White Sox. Lodolo made two rehab starts with Louisville earning a 0-2 record and struck out 10 in those two appearances. Lodolo was activated so he could make his first start of the year for the Reds today. Through four innings he has struck out seven while allowing one walk in his first start of the year so far.
RHP – Carson Spiers
Carson Spiers was optioned today to the Triple-A Louisville Bats. During his time this season with the Reds, he pitched in one game going four innings. He gave up seven hits, three runs, three walks, and struck out one. He ended this stint with a 6.75 ERA and a 2.50 WHIP.

The addition of Lodolo back to the rotation is a welcome addition for manager David Bell. This will allow the team to move Nick Martinez to the bullpen. So far in his first start of the season, he has been sharp and missing bats! Sam Moll is a bullpen arm that the Reds could use to support the rest of the bullpen. Moll’s 3.03 ERA from last year is the kind of support that’s been missing in the bullpen so far this year and most of last.
