The Cincinnati Reds beat the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 5-3 thanks to a Jake Fraley home run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

With the win, the first-place Reds have now won 11 straight games. That's the longest winning streak of the expansion era (since 1961) for the franchise and up there with the longest winning streaks in franchise history, period.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

the Reds’ 11-game win streak is tied for the 5th-longest in franchise history, behind only:

1899: 14

1890: 13

1957: 12

1939: 12

What a stretch it's been for the Reds, who are becoming one of the most exciting teams in baseball. Armed with a bevy of young talent, the Reds are getting contributions from a ton of prospects including Elly De La Cruz, Matt McLain, Spencer Steer and Andrew Abbott.

De La Cruz went 2-4 with a double in the win while Abbott pitched six innings, allowing three runs and striking out 10.

At 40-35, the Reds now lead the National League Central by 1.0 game over the Milwaukee Brewers and 4.0 games over the Chicago Cubs.

Cincinnati will be off on Thursday before opening up a series on Friday with the Atlanta Braves. It will be a monumental test for the young Reds as Atlanta currently has the most wins in the NL at 47.

Luke Weaver will get the ball in that Friday opener for the Reds. The Braves have not announced a starter yet.

First pitch is 6:40 p.m. ET.
