Cleveland trades 1B Jake Bauers to Mariners

The Cleveland Indians found a home for first baseman Jake Bauers after all.

Per David Adler of the official MLB website, Cleveland traded Bauers to the Seattle Mariners on Thursday for either a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Cleveland originally designated the 25-year-old for assignment this past weekend to make room for first baseman Bobby Bradley. Bauers, maligned by pockets of fans for his lack of production at the plate this spring, batted a paltry .190 with two home runs and six RBI across 43 games during the season before Thursday's transaction.

In a corresponding roster move, the Mariners designated infielder Jack Mayfield for assignment.

Bauers started for the Mariners in their Thursday afternoon showdown with the Detroit Tigers.

Interestingly, Seattle begins a three-game series in downtown Cleveland on Friday night.

The Mariners began Thursday's matchup at Detroit holding a 31-32 record and sitting third in the American League West standings, six games back of the first-place Oakland Athletics. Cleveland, meanwhile, is at 32-27 and in second place in the AL Central, four games off the pace set by the first-place Chicago White Sox.

The Indians are off Thursday.
