As the hot stove heats up ahead of the Dec. 1 lockout, a few teams remain active. The Angels, after acquiring Noah Syndergaard and Aaron Loup this offseason, remain active by adding RHP Michael Lorenzen on Sunday night.

I proposed the idea of the Cubs adding their own poor man’s version of Shohei Ohtani in form of Lorenzen. Instead, the Angels have two players with two-way tendencies on their team.

The deal is very much a prove it move, as the one-year deal pays Lorenzen $7 million in 2022. That said, this is his chance to prove himself as a two-way player, help the Angels make a title run, and hit a massive pay day in 2023. This has the makings of “trying to do too much” while “winning the offseason”. However, there is without a doubt ability for this to hit. If it does, the Angels front office will look like geniuses, especially if Ohtani and Mike Trout have rings at this time next year.

This will be a fascinating time for baseball. However, Cubs fans like myself are waiting for the team to do something.
