Cubs place Seiya Suzuki on 10-day IL with sprained finger

The Chicago Cubs have placed outfielder Seiya Suzuki on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right finger.

Suzuki exited last Thursday's contest against the Cincinnati Reds after appearing to jam his left finger sliding into second base. After the game, the team announced Suzuki had suffered a sprained finger. With the injury to his non-throwing hand, he hoped he could avoid a stint on the IL.

Before game one of a doubleheader Monday against the Milwaukee Brewers, manager David Ross said the Cubs would have to decide if they had to put Suzuki on the IL.

"If it's something that is still bothering him we'll have to assess that and make some decisions today," Ross said.

Suzuki tested the injury pregame but was placed on the injured list prior to the second game of the doubleheader.

Ahead of the 2022 season, Suzuki signed a five-year, $85 million contract with the Cubs.

In 41 games this season, Suzuki has batted .245/.344/.432 with four home runs and 21 RBIs.
