On Friday, the Arizona Diamondbacks added a piece to their bullpen.

According to MLB insider Robert Murray, the D’Backs are in agreement with right-hander Miguel Castro on a one-year, $3.5 million deal.

The 27-year-old has bounced around during his career.

The right-hander made his MLB debut with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2015, but was traded to the Colorado Rockies along with Jose Reyes in exchange for Troy Tulowitzki.

Castro spent four seasons with the Baltimore Orioles before a brief two-year stint with the New York Mets.

In 34 appearances with the New York Yankees, Castro went 5-0 and posted a 4.03 ERA.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network confirmed Murray’s report of the signing.

D’Backs Ink Castro To One-Year Deal

Arizona could be an interesting team to watch throughout the offseason in terms of free agency and trades.

They already acquired 2020 American League Rookie of the Year Kyle Lewis from the Seattle Mariners and feature a solid group of starting pitchers led by Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly.

Castro may be a bargain move, but could be a key factor in the team’s bullpen.

The right-hander’s new contract features an option for a second year and incentives.

The D’Backs finished in fourth place in the National League West division in 2022, 37 games back of the 111-win Los Angeles Dodgers at 74-88.

But with a few big acquisitions, Arizona could put themselves in a position to potentially make some noise in the NL West in 2023.

The signing of Castro helps strengthen the team’s bullpen and gives them another quality arm in addition to All-Star reliever Joe Mantiply.
