Diamondbacks announcer Bob Brenly apologizes for 'insensitive' Marcus Stroman comment

Arizona Diamondbacks announcer Bob Brenly has apologized for a comment he made about Mets pitcher Marcus Stroman's head covering during New York's 6-5 extra-inning loss on Tuesday.

"During last night's game, I made a poor attempt at humor that was insensitive and wrong," the statement said, according to ESPN. "I apologize to Marcus Stroman and have reached out directly to share those thoughts. I have had several conversations with the D-backs and we agree that seeking sensitivity training is an important step so I can continue to learn from my mistakes in order to be better in the future."

Brenly said during Tuesday night's game between the Mets and Diamondbacks: "Pretty sure that's the same durag that Tom Seaver used to wear when he pitched for the Mets."

After the game, Stroman tweeted that Brenly's comments had "racist undertones." Mets manager Luis Rojas also said he was "very disappointed" when he heard what Brenly said and called the remarks "very inappropriate."

Stroman started the Mets' loss, allowing seven hits and three runs in six innings.

New York is first in the NL East with a 26-21 record and will face the Diamondbacks again on Wednesday before taking on the San Diego Padres this weekend.
