Mets pitcher Marcus Stroman miffed by 'racist undertones' in comment from TV analyst

New York Mets pitcher Marcus Stroman referred to "racist undertones" in a tweet Tuesday night after television analyst Bob Brenly commented about the right-hander's head covering during New York's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Brenly, who calls Diamondbacks games for Bally Sports Arizona, commented on Stroman's outfit during the fourth inning of Tuesday's game.

"I'm sure that is the same du-rag that Tom Seaver used to wear when he pitched for the Mets," Brenly said, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post.

Stroman has been outspoken on race and social justice issues in the past. He even retweeted several tweets that called out Brenly for racism. The 30-year-old responded to one of those tweets.

Stroman started Tuesday's 6-5 extra-innings loss to the Diamondbacks, allowing seven hits and three runs in six innings. He is 4-4 on the season with a 2.66 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 64.1 innings.

The Mets are first in the NL East with a 26-21 record.
