Dodgers' Freddie Freeman makes unique history with a big day at the plate

Amid a career year, Freddie Freeman had another standout day at the plate Saturday against the Texas Rangers, making unique MLB history along the way.

After leading the day off with a single, Freeman posted back-to-back home runs, giving him 20 for the season. According to OptaStats, Freeman is the first MLB player to record at least 20 home runs, 35 doubles, 125 hits, 10 steals and 40 walks before August.

Freeman's pair of long balls also helped him become the first Dodger in the storied franchise's history to post 20 homers and 35 doubles before the end of July, per ESPN Stats and Info

Freeman has been on a tear in July for the Dodgers, slashing .333/.429/.683 with four home runs and 14 RBI in 15 games entering Saturday's action.

Signed as a free agent by the Dodgers in 2022, Freeman remains a steal for L.A. While the former MVP is the second-highest-paid first-baseman this season, 23 players are making more than Freeman in 2023.

Furthermore, four seasons remain on Freeman's six-year, $162M deal, which could age even better than expected as time passes.

Freeman has been arguably one of the most consistent hitters in baseball over the last two seasons. Since Freeman signed with the Dodgers in 2022, no player in baseball has more hits (322) or doubles (82) than the 33-year-old.
