The Los Angeles Angels signed Los Angeles Dodgers free agent Jake Marisnick to a Minor League contract and assigned him to Triple-A Salt Lake. The deal will presumably include an invitation to Major League Spring Training in 2024.

The veteran outfielder opened the 2023 season with the Chicago White Sox, where he went hitless in nine at-bats before being traded to the Detroit Tigers for cash considerations at the end of May.

Marisnick batted .232/.270/.420 with three doubles, two triples, two home runs and 10 RBI in 33 games with the Tigers. After being designated for assignment and clearing waivers in July, he elected free agency.

Marisnick then signed a Major League contract with the Dodgers. He gave the team a much-needed right-handed bat and figured to receive most of his opportunities against left-handed pitching.

Marisnick went 2-for-5 in four games before he was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left hamstring strain on July 19. He did not appear in another game at the Major League level from that point on.

However, the 32-year-old was healthy enough to play in eight games with Triple-A Oklahoma City to close out the 2023 season.

Marisnick was originally selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the third round of the 2009 MLB Draft. In parts of 11 seasons, he has hit .228/.281/.385 over 877 games while providing most of his value on defense.

Jake Marisnick was ‘open’ to Dodgers’ questions about 2017 Astros cheating scandal

Marisnick is perhaps best known for his time with the Houston Astros from 2014-2019, and most notably was part of the 2017 team found to have electronically stolen signs en route to winning the World Series.

While some former Astros players have refused to address the scandal, Marisnick was open to any questions his Dodgers teammates had for him.
