Matt Andriese became the latest Los Angeles Dodgers Minor League to earn recognition, as he was named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for May 8-14, after turning in a dominant start for Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Andriese logged six shutout innings against Round Rock Express (Texas Rangers affiliate) on May 12, retiring 18 of 20 batters faced, allowing just two hits and collecting six strikeouts.
Andriese was followed by Mark Washington and Alex Vesia, who helped complete Oklahoma City’s second shutout of the season. The victory was OKC’s fourth in what’s become a current 10-game winning streak entering play Saturday.
Unfortunately for Andriese, his next outing on May 18 wasn’t quite as successful as he allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits over 5.2 innings.
The 33-year-old is 4-2 with a 5.40 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in nine starts for Oklahoma City this season, his first in the Dodgers organization.
The Dodgers signed Andriese to a Minor League contract prior to 2023 Spring Training beginning, and he was among their non-roster invitees to big league camp.
Andriese appeared in three Cactus League games and allowed just one unearned run and had four strikeouts across five innings pitched.
Taken in the third round of the 2011 MLB Draft out of UC Riverside by the San Diego Padres, Andriese made his Major League debut in 2015 after being traded to the Tampa Bay Rays.
After appearing in 99 games for the Rays between 2015-2018, Andriese spent time with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Angels, and split 2021 between the Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners organizations.
Upon being designated for assignment in August 2021 by the Red Sox, Andriese was picked up by the Mariners for the final two months of the season. His last MLB appearance was September 27, 2021, when he pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen for Seattle.
Although Andriese is part of the OKC Dodgers rotation, only one of his 50 career games in the Majors is a start.

Including Andriese, a total of 13 Dodgers Minor Leaguers have won Minor League honors, including pitcher William Cuevas (Triple-A Oklahoma City), pitcher Yon Castro (Great Lakes), outfielder Chris Newell (Single-A Rancho Cucamonga), catcher Hunter Feduccia (Oklahoma City), catcher Dalton Rushing (Great Lakes), pitcher Ben Casparius (Great Lakes), first baseman Kyle Nevin (Rancho Cucamonga), infielder Eddys Leonard (Double-A Tulsa), pitcher Alec Gamboa (Drillers), shortstop Austin Gauthier (High-A), infielder Jorbit Vivas (Drillers) and outfielder Andy Pages (Drillers).
