Former Los Angeles Angels outfielder Hunter Renfroe has agreed to a two-year deal with the Kansas City Royals. The deal is for $13 million over the two seasons but does have an opt-out after 2024.

Renfroe spent the first part of the 2023 season with the Halos, appearing in 126 games. He hit 242/.304/.434 with 19 home runs and 56 runs batted in during his time with the team.

He was placed on waivers in the big salary dump by the Angels and was claimed by the Cincinnati Reds. Renfroe played in just 14 games for the Reds, only hitting .128 with one home run and four runs batted in. He was designated for assignment by Cincinnati and then released at the end of September.

But he now lands with the Royals, who have been very active in free agency this winter. He will likely be given a chance to play everyday in Kansas City, and he showed that he was still a solid hitter during his time with the Angels.

He was very good with the Boston Red Sox in 2021, posting a career year. He hit .259 with 31 home runs and 96 runs batted in but was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers following the year.

His deal with the Royals is a nice one for him, in what is considered a strong market for free agents right now.
