The Oakland Athletics officially signed RHP Trevor Gott to a one-year, $1.5 million deal. The longtime MLB veteran will spend the next year back in the American League West, where he began his career in 2015 with the Los Angeles Angels.
Gott was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the sixth round of the 2013 MLB Draft. He'd never play for the Padres, though, as he he was traded in 2014 to the Angels alongside Huston Street in exchange for Taylor Lindsey, R. J. Alvarez, José Rondón, and Elliot Morris.
Gott would then make his MLB debut with the Angels in 2015, sporting an impressive 3.02 ERA in 48 appearances — to this day the best of his career.
He was then traded to the Washington Nationals for Yunel Escobar, and would spend the next three years in the Nation's Capital.
Gott then played for the San Francisco Giants, Milwaukee Brewers, Seattle Mariners and New York Mets, before signing with the Athletics this offseason.
Gott will hope to pitch well enough and long enough to earn his incentives, and could be a potential trade deadline acquisition for a contender assuming the Athletics continue to struggle.
As for the Angels, they're sure to face him this season as long as he's with the A's.
